An Indian Civilizational Perspective

Unlearning Instinct!

When I started learning how to drive I was conscious – deliberate – and in “presence” of every action. But now I drive instinctively. So the deliberate experience became “instinct”!

The question that have now for myself is if I can acomplish the reverse? Whatever that is “instinctive” to me … can I bring it under the “control of my presence”. Can I add in the element of deliberate?

or in other words – the question is “Can I unlearn?”

~ inspired from the words of Swami Vivekananda “Instinct is Degeneration of Voluntary Action”

before enlightenment, the trees are the trees, the rivers are the rivers…..during enlightenment, the trees are no longer the trees, teh rivers are no longer the rivers….after enlightenment, the trees are the trees, the rivers are the rivers…old zen saying…

i remember reading osho once on “driving”…where he mentioned that you can drive either if you are totally unconscious( as in unaware) or when you are totally conscious…made a lot of sense to me…
