Here is another interesting tech post on the blog vs mainstream world..from Business 2.0
Below is Technorati CEO David Sifry’s latest chart of the most-linked to news sites and blogs. The blue bars represent mainstream media sites like the New York Times and CNNMoney.com, and the red bars represent the most popular blogs like Boing Boing and Engadget.
The four blogs that make it on the above chart don’t look so threatening, right? Now look at the same chart from last August, when nearly three times as many blogs (11) registered:
Last August, it looked like the blogs were rapidly encroaching on mainstream media’s territory and would soon be winning the attention game (or at least be tied). So what happened?
Another interesting tid-bit:
The Magic Middle” of the attention curve, highlights some of the most interesting and influential bloggers and publishers that are often writing about topics that are topical or niche, like Chocolate and Zucchini on food, Wi-fi Net NewsWireless networking, TechCrunch on Internet Companies, Blogging Baby on parenting, Yarn Harlot on knitting, or Stereogum on music – these are blogs that are interesting, topical, and influential, and in some cases are radically changing the economics of trade publishing.
This is an important lesson – FOCUS!
