The fastest supercomputer in India is on its way and it will be installed in Pune. More firepower for the weather, defense etc. Remember the time when US refused to give India the IBM supercomputer because of some lousy sanctions – while Pakistan was proliferating stuff scott-free! Well, the genesis of these machines – PARAMs – lie in that period of the 1980s. The Indian scientists had that "WTF" moment to come out with their own stuff instead of look outside to the western powers. And they went the other route of super computing – the parallel processing… and came up with a winner!
India’s fastest supercomputer, being developed by Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) with 5-7 teraflop (a teraflop is a measure of computer’s speed), to help high-end research in oil exploration, space, aircraft and structural designs will see its debut this June. link
