This one verse gives out the basic and foundational characteristic of the spiritual journey. Questioning a Guru or a guide is the MOST critical part. That Gita was created because Arjuna, despite his reverence for Lord Krishna did not stop questioning him instead of picking up the fight as instructed, is a clear message to that effect.
Now, for the seeker, Questioning is imperative.. but for the Guru also it is critical to answer in unambiguous manner… not to invoke just faith in him.. because of his status! That is why one Guide or Guru cannot realistically have more than a hand-ful of students.. quite unlike the current day Gurus who hold huge congregation. There is no way that all of them can question… the most critical element of the spiritual journey!
Approach someone who has realized the purpose of life and question him with reverence and devotion; he will instruct you in this wisdom. Once you attain it, you will never again be deluded. You will see all creatures in the Self, and all in me.
-Bhagavad Gita 4:34-35
