A Ball that cannot be kicked!

My friend, Vish sent in:

The American troops in a friendly gesture decided to distribute Soccer balls to Afghan people. In the Spirit of the International presence in Afghanistan, (unlike Iraq, there is NATO presence there) the Soccer balls have flags of various countries. In the spirit of inclusion, the Saudi flag was also put on the balls and the balls were air-dropped on Khost.

Now the people are mad at the US. Why? because the Saudi flag on the balls has the ‘kalma’ on it and people don’t want to kick something with Allah’s name on it!

By the way the Saudi flag also has a naked sword on it, underlining the kalma. One can judge why an instrument of violence has to go with the name of God.

Good question that! Why does the most "Islamic" of countries in the world.. shows a naked sword under the Kalma?? If Islam is indeed "peaceful".. then shouldn’t the moderates start by agitating against the Saudi flag FIRST?

  1. I was trying to imagine what the equivalent in other countries flags might be.

->A verse from the Gita alongwith a Trishul (a trident ..weapon from Indian mythology) would certainly not be tolerated on the Indian national flag and the Trishul for sure would be pronounced obscene from all quarters.

->”In God we trust” with a Revolver or Rifle on a US flag, which is not that far fetched considering US history (the ‘Right to bear arms’ is a fundamental right in the US constitution and the words “in God we trust” can be seen in US coins today). But it would certainly invite loud protest. For those who don’t know, God is not a secular word in Western vocabulary (as it is in the Indian subcontinent); by default God with a capital G implies the father of Jesus Christ, who “created the earth and heavens in 6 days”.

These flag conjectures sound like jokes/drunken-babble but the Saudi one is a reality.

  3. Vishwa, I agree with you.. like I have often said.. give me Mein Kampf as a book of a religion and I can convincingly “interpret” it to give rise to a “peaceful” ideology!

Islamic world keeps talking of the subjugation it is under.. but give Muslims HALF a chance of ruling a country – they will make it a hell.. the women and other minorities live in sub-human conditions.. just like in Saudi Arabia! The situation is so amazing that except for the Sunnis.. no one even a chance to worship! No wonder, Muslims are better off in India.. and the US!

  6. Renuka Choudhary is a Union Minister in India. She is very witty and a firebrand politician, but quite subtle at times.Recently in Mumbai she was a reporter took a dig at her and Kiron Kher’s girth(Kiron Kher is a actress of repute and actor Anupam Kher’s wife) she was quite to remark which i quote”Everything large is wonderful.Today, you watch movies on 70mm,not 16mm”.
    Quite a wit.

  9. Jeshi. you are right.. its been ages since India could actually win anything in soccer! We were worse than Nepal even! Quite a fall from once heady days when the Indian team reached the Semi-finals of Olympics and finished 4th! More on that in another post! 🙂
