There is a general story about the 9-11 incidents – which every one knows. And then there are conspiracy theories. Both sides are equally convinced that they are right! Now, I feel there is some truth to both the sides. The things really don’t “add up” properly! For example, CIA knew that ISI (Pakistan’s Intelligence agency) Chief had had $100,000 wired to Mohd Atta before 9-11 and the same Chief was in NYC on 9-11 morning holding discussions with CIA, when it all happened! How could this have possibly happened? And till date nothing has ever happened to that guy? If US could make a mincemeat of Saddam, then that ISI Chief could have been written off as simply ‘collateral damage’. But nothing ever happened. WHY?
Now, the Commission investigating the 9-11 incidents has come out saying that they are “convinced” that CIA made a “conscious” decision to impede the 9-11 inquiry! That is a VERY significant statement. Again the same question. Why?
The commission that investigated the Sept. 11 attacks made repeated and detailed requests to the Central Intelligence Agency for information about the interrogation of operatives of Al Qaeda and was told by a top official that the CIA had “produced or made available for review” everything requested, according to a new review of classified documents by commission members.
The review was conducted this month after the disclosure that in November 2005, the CIA destroyed videotapes documenting the interrogations of two operatives from Al Qaeda, well after the commission made its requests in 2003 and 2004.
A seven-page memorandum prepared by Philip Zelikow, who was the panel’s executive director, concluded that “further investigation is needed” to determine whether the CIA’s withholding of the tapes from the commission violated federal law.
In interviews in the past week, the chairman of the commission, Thomas Kean, and its vice chairman, Lee Hamilton, said their reading of the report had convinced them that the agency had made a conscious decision to impede the Sept. 11 commission’s inquiry.
