The military operation against Taliban will create more problems going forward is probably best brought home by what Sufi Mohammad, the Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) chief said this week.
“The peace deal has been broken by the government. Even in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government does not use bombs against its own people. The government is trying to keep a foreign power happy by killing its own people.”
It is questionable whether Army is actually killing Taliban in all the areas. Even Pakistanis themselves are not certain about this fact. But even if they are – then they are losing the PR battle. The Lal Masjid offensive was bad enough and created many more Jehadi minds amongst the devout. This offensive – where the Government should have used Obama’s proverbial “scalpel” instead of a “hatchet” to weed out the Taliban fighters – will create even more brain-washed youth.
Jehadi Organizations helping Uprooted
Meanwhile, banned groups like Jamaat-ud-Dawa (under a new name Falah-i-Insaniat Foundation although the same logo) are working overtime to provide food and shelter to the migrants and the uprooted villagers from Swat and other areas. This is creditable and also extremely critical for the uprooted to survive in the heat of summer which can be pretty oppressive. But this would come at a cost. Under the radar, and in the guise of helping.. several youth will be recruited into the ranks of Jehadis. It is an ideal setting for Jehadi organizations to go on an expansion spree. Mian Adil, deputy chairman of Falah and a former member of Jamaat, said in a statement that:
“We are silently helping the homeless, hungry and needy people, and let us do our work without maligning us. We have sent 2,000 of our members to help our brothers and sisters.”
