The Hacking Wars and the coming “March Storm”

The Anonymous Hacktivists
Unbeknownst to many, there is a virtual war going on. Hackers vs the US Government. Recently, computer hacking group LulzSec has been brought down by the FBI, when they arrested some of the top guys in that group. They did so by introducing a mole named Hector Xavier Monsegur aka Sabu.

He collaborated with FBI to have the LulzSec members arrested. The following got arrested:

  • Ryan Ackroyd, aka “Kayla” and Jake Davis, aka “Topiary” from London,
  • 2 residents of Ireland, Darren Martyn, aka “pwnsauce” and Donncha O’Cearrbhail, aka “palladium”,
  • Jeremy Hammond aka “Anarchaos,” from Chicago, USA

Jeremy from Chicago is said to have been behind the hacking of US Intelligence and Security company Stratfor last year.

Xavier aka Sabu was part of three hacking groups – Anonymous, Internet Feds and Lulz Security.

After the breaking down of LulzSec, Anonymous is still active and was gearing up for the revenge. It almost warned in its tweet, using their AnonyNewsNet handle:

“We are Legion. We do not have a leader nor will we ever. LulzSec was a group, but Anonymous is a movement. Groups come and go, ideas remain”

Anonymous is fierce in its retaliation. It brought down Interpol’s main site and CIA’s site when 25 of its members were arrested. And when Megaupload site was shut down and Kim Dotcom was arrested, the group hacked and brought down many of the music industry sites.

The retaliation was expected:

“by no means is this ‘cutting the head off’ of #Anonymous or ‘devastating to the organization’. Do we really have to explain why?”.

The Anonymous group believed that the anti-virus company Panda Security was instrumental in getting the folks from Anonymous arrested in February, so it hacked into 25 websites of Panda Security and pasted messages like:

“Love to LulzSec/Antisec fallen friends”.

Not just that, the Italian branch of Anonymous has hacked into Vatican’s website in retaliation for all the wrongs that Roman Catholic Church has been up to.

“Anonymous has decided to put your site under siege in response to your doctrine, liturgy and the absurd and anachronistic rules that your profit-making organization spreads around the world,” a statement published on the Italian website of the Anonymous group read.

Despite all these attacks, Anonymous is not done yet. It is as if it has just shown the trailer of the things to come in March:

“Trust us. You think you’ve seen the full muscles of #Anonymous up to now? Nah, you ain’t seen NOTHING yet. Get ready. #March2012,”
