An Indian Civilizational Perspective

How do I find my Guru?

Guru can never be found.  He finds you.

In my own experience I know that deeper the longing for truth, the surer the possibility of you meeting the Guru who can take you from Untruth to Truth.

The important thing is what you long for.  You long for wealth?  Well, wealth is all you can expect from a “Guru” you get to.  Are you making vocation out of your Spirituality?  Then even if a real Master comes in front of you, you will only get what you have longed for… and waste the Master’s work.

Longing for Truth – not someone’s truth.  Not Truth as in Morality.  But Truth itself.

And if you long for Truth, it doesn’t matter how much you run from a Guru, he will find you.  You may go and hide in the middle of the earth, it doesn’t matter.  He will get you from there as well.

Because such a being these days is rare.  Most of the Masters I have seen in the last many years are simply trying to ignite the longing in people.  They aren’t able to do the “real work”.  In fact, probably 90% of their work is simply story telling to ignite the longing.  The time to actually fructify the Grace that will take them from Untruth to Truth.. never even comes to pass.

What a waste of a Master’s time.  But that is what happening and sad.

And longing for Truth is not a “Decision”.   It’s not like “Oh, from today I will long for X or Y”.  If you aren’t aware of your existence or living and the insufficiency of it all, then the chances are that you will not even ask the questions that articulate your longing and fuel it.

You may very well fall into some belief or the other.  Which would have killed any possibility of longing.

It is easier to help someone learn something, than to have someone unlearn a thing.  And that is the issue one sees amongst most seekers.  They keep falling into the trap of believing.  Not Seeking.

Spiritual Masters worth starts when Believing ends.
