An Indian Civilizational Perspective

Is Google already testing its Android 5.0 version Key Lime Pie?

Google’s 4.2 version of Android Jelly Beans has just become official, and it is already getting ready to unveil its next version – 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

In fact the rumor is that one device may be testing it as we speak: Sony LT30i.

Android 4.2 was made official only a few weeks ago, and it’s running officially only on a handful of Nexus-branded devices, so it’s definitely too early to talk about Google’s future Android version, which could very well be Android 5.0.0 that could be known to the world as Key Lime Pie.

But a wild Monday rumor tells us that there might be a device out there already running the new Android version. Obviously we’ll take everything with a huge grain of salt for now, so let’s look at what the report says.

The Android device in question that’s running Android 5.0.0 in the NenaMark benchmark test above is apparently a Sony LT30i that’s equipped with a 720p HD display (1280 x 720 resolution,) 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 processor and a Qualcomm Adreno 220 GPU.

Since Jelly Beans was a fairly bug-free version, the questions are being asked as to what will the new Key Lime Pie Version bring to the table?  Will it be a whole new version, created afresh?  But there is one view that I think seems plausible:

There are also speculations that the new OS will have some special Nexus program, which suggests that there could be line of Nexus phone offering from Google.

Recently, Google had bought Motorola, and it is aggressively realigning the operations and rationalizing the workforce.  It needs to start using the operations at Motorola, so the Nexus line of products and other devices from Motorola may be the next step for Google.

Some of the updates in the new version could be:

better multiple device support, social media integration, customization center, line-drawing keyboard options
