Anna Hazare will campaign for Arvind Kejriwal’s party; larger, consensual bloc needed

Thankfully after a lot of drama between the two, Anna Hazare has agreed to do campaigning on behalf of Arvind Kejriwal’s party candidates.  He said he will not campaign for other parties.  Only, AAP (Aam Aadmi Party).

“I will campaign only for Kejriwal’s candidates,”Hazare told reporters here. “There may be good people in other parties but who has the control?”

He however said that he will vet the candidates and not just go along with the party nominations.

“I know Kejriwal. He has not done anything for himself. He is doing everything for the country,” Hazare said, reiterating that he will however examine the candidates and back them only the deserving ones.

“I will check them. If they are found to be good, if they are proper candidates, I will campaign for those candidates,” he said.

Too many fractions

There are at least two political parties and (Loksatta and Aam Aadmi Party) one social organization (Team Anna – India Against Corruption); which are at the forefront of the corruption free India campaign and doing great work.  They should continue their efforts.  But, my worry is that they may be diluting their strength by standing apart.

Instead it would have been better to merge – just like corporates do – to form one big whole so they can take on the might of the larger parties.

My ideal wishful scenario

My wishful scenario is that Narendra Modi – BJP – become the Prime Minister.  These two parties – Loksatta and Aam Aadmi Party – also win huge number of seats – and join BJP in the NDA.  BJP however gets represented in Parliament by relatively cleaner politicians.  As well as in the Government.  Some of these two parties join the Government.

They rule by consensus.

We do not need a repeat of the 1977 time, where the Janata Party fought internally and nothing was left of it.  But at the same time, there is a need for a larger entity to take on the forces that are hurting India fundamentally.
