Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was sworn in as a Prime Minister in 1970.  He was greatly helped and backed by the Qadianis (Qadayyanis or Ahmadiyyas or Ahmadis).   The Ahmadis were hoping to reap rewards after having backed Bhutto unflinchingly.   When Jamiat-e-Tulaba, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami wanted to create mischief it was the Qadiani students who had joined with PPP led student federations to keep them in check.  Khuddamul Ahmadiyya had organized parties and contributed funds to PPP and the MNAs and MPAs were treated like royalty when they went to Rabwah.

At that time, Mirza Nasir (3rd Khalifa) felt that finally a majority of Pakistanis had accepted Qadayyanis world view.

Then, in 1973 Oil Crisis hit the world and in February 1974, Bhutto arranged for an Islamic Summit in Pakistan, which was to establish the leading role of Saudi Arabia in the Islamic world.

In May 1974, a fight occurred between Jamaat-e-Islami group and Ahmadi students in Rabwah.  This triggered widespread riots.

IN September 1974, the Second Constitutional Amendment declared Ahmadis as non-Muslims

This is the speech by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto where he incited violence against the Ahmadiyyas.  And thus repaid the Ahmaddiyyas for their support to him during the elections.

The whole Bhutto family has used such inciting and hateful rhetoric to create violence to bolster their own political fortunes.  Benazir Bhutto did with the Kashmiris what her father did with the Ahmadis, which we will discuss in another post.
