The remains of the two American soldiers have been found in Iraq. Apparently, they were tortured before they were killed. It is not quite apparent what kind of torture they underwent.. but it would have been fairly brutal.
The military says the remains were found late Monday night by forces acting on a tip from an Iraqi civilian, who also warned of possible explosives nearby.
When they retrieved the bodies, coalition forces had to carefully sidestep several bombs placed around the corpses.
The town in which they were found, Yusufiyah, is in an area known as the Triangle of Death because of the relentless attacks American forces face there. A former resident of Yusufiyah who asked to remain unidentified says it was always a deadly place, but it has recently become a no-man’s land.
Al-Qaida in Iraq claimed responsibility for the two killings, saying its new leader, who replaced Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, had "slaughtered" the two captured Americans. The claim couldn’t be verified, but an Iraqi defense ministry official told reporters the two men were killed in a barbaric way, and that their bodies showed signs of torture.
This is how the killers described their “feat”:
A claim posted on a Web site Tuesday said the soldiers were “slaughtered” in accordance with “God’s will.”
“We announce the good news to our Islamic nation that we executed God’s will and slaughtered the two crusader animals we had in captivity,” said the claim, reportedly from the Mujahedeen Shura Council, a group linked to al Qaeda.
“And God has given our Emir, Abu Hamza al-Muhajer, the good fortune of carrying out the legitimate court’s command in person.”
Remember the torture that the Indian soldiers went through at the hands of Pakistani Army? Lt. Saurabh Kalia and his jawans – Sepoys Arjun Ram, Bhanwar Lal Bagaria, Bhika Ram, Moola Ram and Naresh Singh – all young fellows were tortured barbarically.. which I have no idea how one could endure.. and even more unimaginable .. HOW COULD ONE DO THAT?!! Even more strange and unthinkable was .. how could that have been the handiwork of someone who was fighting with a religious war cry!? What kind of religion motivates people to get to that level?
Here is a description of what they underwent:
Lt Kalia’s brother, Vaibhav, now 25, identified his body when it arrived in a coffin wrapped in the national flag in Palampur. Saurabh’s face, he recalls, "was the size of my fingers, his eyebrows were the only visible feature, no eyes, no jaw, there were cigarette burns… it was very bad. My parents couldn’t have seen him."
Vaibhav pauses, then stops talking.
He does not mention that his brother’s eyes and eardrums were pierced, the private organs cut, his chest burned… the details are mentioned in the appeal that his father has sent out to Indian citizens in the last five years.
