Booming Car Exports from India to the World

Mercedes-Benz will assemble the the new GLC SUV in its Pune plant and export it to the US.  As Trump administration puts tariffs on China manufactured goods, the cars assembled in India could get a flip.

What is interesting is that its not just Mercedes-Benz but also Ford and GM who are building and assembling cars in India for the world market.

Mercedes-Benz India will join Ford Motor India who already makes and exports the EcoSport Compact SUV from its Chennai plant for the American market. Ford Motor India’s exports have been increasing constantly and the company was the top car exporter from India during the period April 2017 – March 2018 by exporting 181,148 units from India. The company began to export the Ford EcoSport SUV to the US in January 2018.

India’s top car exports market is Mexico, a market which grew by 7.7 per cent to $1.69 billion in FY2018.  US has now become the 3rd largest.

Despite Brexit, the car export to Britain was up by 8% which was 34,000 cars in 2017.
