Why Gen Bakshi’s tears reflect the onslaught of Anti-India Forces
When Retd General GD Bakshi broke down in a debate about pride and flying of the Indian Tricolor – many, including the author, weeped with him. The onslaught on him was relentless for defending the primacy and pride of the Indian Flag.
Major General Bakshi wrote a heart-felt note on his Facebook page explaining a sense of rejection and dejection felt by the Indian soldiers from the Indian public at large. Specially the intellectuals.
Were the tears of Maj Gen Bakshi a one-off event? Or is it a result of decades of humiliation of the Indian Army?
Humiliation of Sam Maneckshaw
Sam Maneckshaw was the first Indian Field Marshal. He was not just instrumental in defeating the Pakistanis in the 1971 War, but also in saving Kashmir against the Pakistani onsalught in 1947 (Definitive Story of Kashmir).
On June 27, 2008, the great Sam was laid to rest. And not one politician was present to pay homage. Nor were the Army officers allowed by the Congress Government. Why? Because of his obvious issues with Indira Gandhi during his heyday and also the book by a Pakistani politician – Gohar Ayub Khan, son of ex-President and military dictator Ayub Khan, who was instrumental in the 1965 war as the President of Pakistan. The Indian establishment in 2008, led by Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh, used the book of a losing General’s son (for obvious score settling) to cast aspersions on FM Sam Maneckshaw’s exemplary record. A convenient payback for FM’s fiercely independent stance in face of Indira Gandhi diktats!
The Indian Armed forces have been used and abused with impunity and in return they have to bear the brunt of intellectual hostility.
Maj Gen Bakshi’s Tears
Around the Kargil War, I came to know that most Indian soldiers do not even have proper ponchos. One soldier was envious of me having the $10 poncho from Academy and wanted it, which I immediately parted with on that trip to India. But subsequently, I came back and raised some money to send a suitcase full of US Army-grade ponchos for some soldiers in Kashmir. Which I was told later were rationed and used sparingly.
This has been the level of Indian establishment’s apathy to the Indian soldier who fights for us on the border.
It is quite easy for us sitting easy in our houses to disregard or belittle the work and sacrifices of the soldiers. Quite another, however, to be in their shoes. The very idea that Army is a villain in India has been not just introduced but inculcated by the media and the so-called intellectuals over the last few decades. This campaign interestingly has coincided with the rise of Islamic terror funded by Pakistan.
At the vanguard of the campaign against the Armed Forces by the so-called Intellectuals have been the leftists in India. Their actions of going against the Indian armed forces was honed before, during and after the Indo-China war of 1961. It was during this was war that the CPI members including Harkrishan Singh Surjeet and Jyoti Basu were arrested because radio sets were found in the Calcutta office which were used to communicate with Peking. Also, Jaipal Singh was given the task of infiltrating the Indian Army by the Chinese, which he was doing. (How Indian Communists committed Acts of Treason against the Indian state) Interestingly, one of the tasks of these CPI members including the “intellectuals” backed by them and China was to attack “specific groups like Praja Socialist and Jan Sangh parties”. (Please check this now declassified document from CIA – Indian Communist Party and the Sino-Indian dispute)
After the war, the battle-lines within the CPI were clear. Pro-China and Pro-India. The so-called stalwarts of the communists in the recent years – EMS Namboodripad, Jyoti Basu, HKS Surjeet – were in the Pro-China camp. The perfidy and treason was open and public. Their rise to power in the highest echelons of power in India – without broach!
At a CPI National Council meeting held on April 11, 1964, 32 Council members walked out in protest, accusing Dange and his followers of “anti-unity and anti-Communist policies”.
The leftist section, to which the 32 National Council members* belonged, organised a convention in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh July 7 to 11. In this convention the issues of the internal disputes in the party were discussed. 146 delegates, claiming to represent 100,000 CPI members, took part in the proceedings. The convention decided to convene the 7th Party Congress of CPI in Calcutta later the same year.
Marking a difference from the Dangeite sector of CPI, the Tenali convention was marked by the display of a large portrait of the Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong.
At the Tenali convention a Bengal-based pro-Chinese group, representing one of the most radical streams of the CPI left wing, presented a draft programme proposal of their own. These radicals criticised the draft programme proposal prepared by M. Basavapunniah for undermining class struggle and failing to take a clear pro-Chinese position in the ideological conflict between the CPSU and CPC.
The 32 were P. Sundarayya, M. Basavapunniah, T. Nagi Reddy, M. Hanumantha Rao, D.V. Rao, N. Prasad Rao, G. Bapanayya, E.M.S. Namboodiripad, A.K. Gopalan, A.V. Kunhambu, C.H. Kanaran, E.K. Nayanar, V.S. Achuthanandan, E.K. Imbichibava, Promode Das Gupta, Muzaffar Ahmad, Jyoti Basu, Abdul Halim, Hare Krishna Konar, Saroj Mukherjee, P. Ramamurthi, M.R. Venkataraman, N. Sankariah, K. Ramani, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri, D.S. Tapiala, Dr. Bhag Singh, Sheo Kumar Mishra, R.N. Upadhyaya, Mohan Punamiya and R.P. Saraf.

Anti-Indian Army Hordes are Instruments of Foreign Powers
The document – Indian Communist Party and the Sino-Indian dispute – very clearly describes how the Indian communists from early 1950s were collaborating with the Soviets and Chinese to carry their agenda in India. This agenda was in terms of both, domestic and foreign policies of the government. In fact, it was common for the Communists leaders who would travel to China to send the communications to their comrades via the Chinese Consulate!! The following excerpts will show how the Chinese dictated the actions of the communists in India.
Reading of the paper – as painful as it is for any Indian – makes it clear how a hostile Chinese government has shaped the internal politics of India. All in the garb of “people’s movement” and communism.
US uses Christian Evangelicals via Conversions Just as Chinese used Communists
At the end of the day, Communism and Christianity are both ideologies to suit the powers-that-be. Communism never had anything to do with the poor (who perished the most under Soviets and Mao) and Christianity has nothing to do with Christ (it was Constantine who created it in the first place!).
Ideological conversions – Communism and Christianity – are therefore an instrument of the powers who have wanted a major leverage in the Indian polity.
With the advent of Bush government in the US, the International Religious Freedom Act, was brought in to freely use Christian Evangelical organizations to influence state policies in several countries. Any roadblocks – perceived or real – were intended to be handled via the statutes of this Act.
Why the Immigration and Nationality Act includes a provision that punishes foreign officials for violations of religious freedom goes back to 1998, when the IRFA was passed by Congress. The issue of religious persecution abroad gained momentum throughout the 1990s among Jews, Catholics, and human rights activists, and especially among Evangelical Protestants. Members of Congress took notice, and the issue took legislative shape when congressmen Frank Wolf and Arlen Specter introduced The Freedom from Religious Persecution Act in 1997. A modified version of that bill would eventually become the IRFA, which in Section 604 details the “inadmissibility of foreign government officials who have engaged in particularly severe violations of religious freedom,” and amends the INA to include the clause that would later be used to ban Modi.
Since its passage, the IRFA has been subject to criticism for its perceived Christian bias, and skepticism about its diplomatic potential. Modi’s visa application, then, was a chance for the IRFA and the newly created United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) to show their effectiveness. In the words of Felice D. Gaer, chair of the USCIRF at the time: “I wanted to turn this around, to make our focus broader.” Additionally, it may have helped that Modi was not a national figure at the time—perhaps the Department of State did not see his ban as a big deal. But India’s placement on USCIRF’s “Watch List” (for the 2002 riots, as well as for its anti-conversion laws) has not been without dissent (even from Gaer herself), and the denial of Modi’s visa has been called misguided. The harvesting of the souls initiative – which includes planting of Churches is decidedly an instrument of state policy. An extensive research by VK Shashikumar for Tehelka revealed some devastating information for Indian national interest in the wake of conversion drives by the Evangelicals (Preparing for the Harvest). Download the detailed article in PDF form for easy read – Preparing for the harvest (pdf)
Religious expansionism has not witnessed this scale, scope, and state resources in a long time. Detailed investigations by Tehelka reveal that American evangelical agencies have established in India an enormous, well-coordinated and strategised religious conversion plan. The operation was launched in the early 1990s but really came into its own after George W Bush Jr, an avowed born-again Christian, became president of the United States in 2001. Since then, aggressive evangelists have found pro-active support from the new administration in their efforts to convert some sections of Indian society to Christianity. At the heart of this complex and sophisticated operation is a simple strategy-convert locals and then give them the know-how and money to plant their own churches and multiply.
Around the time that Bush Jr moved into the Oval office, a worldwide conversion movement, funded and effected by American evangelical groups, was peaking in India. The movement, which began as AD2000 & Beyond and later morphed into Joshua Project I and Joshua Project II, was designed to be a sledgehammer-a breathtaking, decade-long steamroller of a campaign that would set the stage for a systematic, sophisticated and self-sustaining “harvest” of the “unreached people groups” in India in the 21st century. It was just as the operation was taking off that the script changed. Much to the delight of American evangelicals, one of their own, George Bush Jr, became the occupant of the White House.
In a major policy decision taken very early into his presidency, Bush, on January 29, 2001, unveiled a “faith based” social service initiative that included a new White House office to promote government aid to churches and Christian faith-based organisations. This, in effect, threw the massive weight of the federal government behind religious groups and religious conversions. The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives was set up in the White House in the first week of February 2002 and a man called Jim Towey was appointed director. (A snap introduction to Towey: he was the legal counsel to Mother Teresa in the late 1980s.)
Though Bush’s initiative to fund “salvation and religious conversion” is stalled in the Congress over constitutional and civil rights concerns, he has pushed for its implementation through executive orders.
Why is this important?
In March 2005, the then Gujarat Chief Minister was denied visa by the US. This was done based on the campaign by some interesting bed-fellows – Evangelicals, Islamists and Leftist sympathizers in the US.
But just as aspirational entities as Dalitistan, Khalistan, and Nagaland find life from time to time in the annals of the US Congressional Record, a mix of new and old actors in Congress fancy themselves jury and judge in the case of Modi and the theatre commences.
Even putting aside the terrible optics of American legislators disrespecting the free and fair democratic ballot in India, not to mention a fiercely independent judiciary that has convicted many — but absolved Modi thus far — for the riotous aftermath of Godhra, it is instructive to make note of the cast that rendered judgement.
Keith Ellison, Joe Pitts, Trent Franks and Frank Wolf are well known ideological and religious activists vis a vis India, and their history of engagement with Indian Americans speaks to motive.
Those at the forefront of the Modi visa denial campaigns were also pushing for the Pakistani line against India. If one has listened to the recent JNU goons and their backers (Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the left), one would see that their narrative is completely aligned with that of this group as well.
An ideological soul mate to Franks, Pitts is another evangelical conservative who has made opposing not just Modi, but the Bharatiya Janata Party, specifically, a target of several Congressional hearings.
From inviting activist Teesta Setalvad — whom the same Supreme Court SIT reportedly condemned for perjury by fabricating affidavits implicating Modi — to Capitol Hill hearings and repeatedly co-sponsoring bills on behalf of Christian Dalit leaders, Pitts also trumpeted his hosting a film screening, India’s Hidden Slavery, that was sponsored by Christian Solidarity Worldwide.
Perhaps Pitts faced his greatest embarrassment when his Indian agenda focused on Gujarat, Orissa, and Dalits began congealing with that of Dan Burton, that anti-India stalwart (who also signed the letter against Modi), and expanded to parroting the Pakistani view on India.
Those calls for a plebiscite in Kashmir, forming the Congressional Forum on Kashmir, and benedictions to erstwhile president Pervez Musharraf were the ones Pitts likely hoped to retract when the Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed that after Burton, Pitts was the highest recipient of largesse from the Virginia-based, convicted Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence agent, Ghulam Nabi Fai.
It was based on the letter form Joe Pitts to Condy Rice that perhaps the visa was denied to Narendra Modi! As one can see, he has been a solid and relentless backer of Teesta Setalvad. The person who led the charge against Modi from day one!
Anti-Indian Armed Forces Agenda and the Anti-India Combine
When you bring the following forces together – as they are in their operations which deliberately go un-reported by the media – then you see an interesting pattern. And a buffet of agenda items that converge.
- Chinese Establishment: Use top leaders – including HKS Surjeet and Jyoti Basu in the past – to get power at the highest level and subvert Indian politics and infiltrate the Armed forces.
- Joe Pitts: Pakistani ISI propaganda (funded via Nabi Fai), backing Teesta Setalvad, hoisting Dalit Christian organizations, and use of the IRFA for furthering the Evangelical bodies in India.
- Evangelicals: These include everyone from Pat Robertson of The Christian Coalition, US Government via Joshua Projects and IRFA and myriad other Church bodies – who send billions to India for conversion and interference in State policy.
- Islamists: Umar Khalid – the event organizer of JNU anti-India protests is the son of SQR Ilyasi, founder of SIMI. His views and “freedom” has been backed by the “Secular” forces, while he mouthed the very propaganda that Pakistani establishment orchestrates.

Conclusion
The continued subversion of the Armed forces, the bad treatment by the politicians and bureaucracy that has been influenced by anti-India forces (One Rank One Pay issue!) and coming together of anti-India forces is something that every Indian should be aware of and fight against.
It was in the face of such onslaught that Major General Bakshi broke down. What the terrorists in Kashmir and Pakistani forces at the heights of Kargil could not do, the so-called “liberals” and intellectuals did by belittling the very Indian Flag that he and his jawans had so bravely fought for! If you did not tear up then you need be very clear that one day – if the likes of General Bakshi lose – your coming progeny will more than pay for with their own blood!
