Near Checkmate: UNSC underlines need to punish Jaish-e-Mohammad sponsors while UN had released JeM is based in Pakistan!

Yesterday, we had looked at the UN Security Council Statement on Pulwama Attack.  It had made some interesting statements.

The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of India and all other relevant authorities in this regard.

Before this, the statement started off by stating the facts on the attack and who had taken the responsibility.

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in over 40 Indian paramilitary forces dead and dozens wounded on February 14, 2019, for which Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility

And based on these two statements, we had said in our post:

With this statement, UN Security council has admitted that India can do what it needs to do to combat Jaish-e-Mohammad, its sponsors and financiers.  All India needs to do now is to prove that Pakistan is the sponsor of JeM.

Well, today we came across an interesting clarification from none other than India’s Ambassador & Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin.  He shared a press release from United Nations on October 19, 2001 which had listed the organizations that were associated with Al Qaeda and Usama bin Laden.  They had also mentioned the location of the organizations.  Here they had mentioned Jaish-e-Mohammad – located in Pakistan!

So, to the question of whether United Nation “knows” where Jaish-e-Mohammad is based at?  The answer is yes.  And it is recorded. Therefore, now the effort may be to show the money trail between JeM and Pakistan Government.  How tough could that be?
