'No Sign Of Pakistan Supporting Talks Between Afghan Government And Taliban'

Mohammad Umer Daudzai is Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s Special Envoy and CEO of the High Peace Council. He organised the April 29-May 2 Consultative Loya Jirga with over 3000 delegates. Daudzai has briefed India’s NSA Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale on his government’s position on peace talks with the Taliban. His visit came on the same day India handed over two more attack helicopters, with two more due soon to add to the four already given. in this conversation with SNI Associate Editor Amitabh P Revi, Daudzai says the Taliban may have a larger political profile because of talks with the U.S. but the people have not given them legitimacy. He also talks about how much Pakistan should be trusted, presidential polls and the political divide.Daudzai has also served as Interior Minister, Ambassador to Pakistan, envoy to Iran and has twice been ex-President Hamid Karzai’s Chief of Staff.
